During a journey through the USA in 1972, Franz Mack and his son Roland had the idea to open their own amusement park with entertainment for all age groups. Three years later, in the opening summer of 1975, 250,000 guests visited the park. There are now more than 5 million visitors per year, making Europa Park the most visited tourist destination in Germany after Cologne Cathedral. According to a study, Europa-Park is also one of the 25 most visited theme parks in the world and, after Disneyland Paris, it is the second most visited theme park in Europe and the most visited seasonal theme park in the world. On a total area of around 950,000 m², 16 themed areas offer over a hundred rides and several shows. The park has five hotels, a camping site and a cinema. More and more areas are being planned by HF from an electrical engineering perspective. Blue Fire, a roller coaster that accelerates from zero to 100 km/h in 2.5 seconds, is just one spectacle which is in the planning stages and will draw in thousands of visitors every day.
